The best Black Friday GPU for running AI models at home is the one with the most VRAM you can afford: at least 12GB, ideally 16GB. The RTX 3060 12GB is the budget pick, and the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is the one to grab if it drops back to summer prices.

Graphics card prices rose in September 2026, so open-box and renewed cards are the best way to pay less this year. Skip every 8GB card, however cheap it gets.

Where should I shop for GPU deals?

Words you'll see in this guide
  • VRAM: the memory on your graphics card. AI models load into it, so more VRAM means you can run bigger models.
  • Parameters (8B, 14B, 32B): a rough measure of a model's size. "8B" means 8 billion. Bigger models are usually smarter and need more memory.
  • Quantization: shrinking a model by storing its numbers less precisely, so it fits in less memory with a small drop in quality. Think of saving a photo as a smaller JPEG. "4-bit" (Q4) is the common setting.
  • Tokens per second: how fast a model writes. A token is roughly three-quarters of a word.
  • CUDA: Nvidia's software for running AI on its graphics cards. Most local AI tools support it first and best.
  • Open-box: an item someone bought and returned, checked and resold for less. Amazon sells these in Amazon Resale with a condition grade like Like New or Very Good.
  • PSU: the power supply, the box inside the case that turns wall power into power every part can use.

How much VRAM do I need for local AI?

VRAM decides which models fit. Here's what each size runs at the usual 4-bit setting:

The cards worth buying

RTX 3060 12GB Budget pick

RTX 3060 12GB

The RTX 3060 12GB is still the cheapest Nvidia card with enough VRAM for real local AI. Community benchmarks put it at roughly 40 to 55 tokens per second on an 8B model, faster than you can read. It's the card I picked for my own multi-GPU AI rig.

  • Make sure it's the 12GB version. An 8GB RTX 3060 also exists, and it's a much worse buy for AI.
  • Open-box is fine. Pick Like New or Very Good, and test it under load in the first week.

RTX 5060 Ti 16GB Best 16GB card

RTX 5060 Ti 16GB

The RTX 5060 Ti 16GB gives you 16GB of VRAM, current Nvidia support, and low power use. That makes it the best new mid-range card for local AI, and the one most worth watching on Black Friday.

  • Only buy the 16GB version. The 8GB 5060 Ti uses the same name.
  • Check open-box first. It's up since summer, so an open-box unit is the easiest way back to a fair price.

Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB

The Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB launched with a lower list price than the 5060 Ti and has the same 16GB of VRAM.

  • The trade-off: no CUDA. Ollama and LM Studio support recent AMD cards, but setup is less smooth, and some AI tools still work best on Nvidia.
  • Check first: confirm the card is on Ollama's supported GPU list before you buy.

RTX 3090 24GB 24GB for bigger models

RTX 3090 24GB (renewed or open-box)

A renewed RTX 3090 is still the usual route to 24GB of VRAM for 32B-size models. It draws a lot of power, and used prices have roughly doubled since last winter. Buy one if you know you need 24GB, and pair it with a power supply of 850 W or more.

Renewed workstation A home for your GPU

Renewed workstations (Dell Precision, HP Z4, ThinkStation)

No desktop to put a card in? A renewed Dell Precision 5820, HP Z4 G4, or Lenovo ThinkStation P520 has a big power supply, room for a full-size card, and often plenty of RAM already installed. Add an RTX 3060 or 5060 Ti and you have a home AI server for less than a new gaming PC.

  • Check before you buy: the power supply wattage and whether it has the PCIe power cables your card needs.

Power supply Don't skip this

A power supply that can handle the card

An underpowered supply causes random crashes under AI load. A 650 W unit covers an RTX 3060 or 5060 Ti in most systems. A 3090 needs 850 W or more. Stick to an 80 Plus Gold unit from a known brand, like the Corsair RM850e.

Skip these, even on sale:
  • Any 8GB card, including the RTX 5060 and the 8GB RTX 5060 Ti. They're too small for AI models worth running.
  • Open-box cards graded Acceptable or As Is. Missing parts and heavy wear aren't worth the risk on a GPU.
  • High-end gaming cards bought just for AI. A card like the RTX 5080 costs far more and has the same 16GB of VRAM as the 5060 Ti.

What do GPU prices look like right now?

Here's what "normal" looked like in October 2026, from eBay sold listings, so you can judge a Black Friday price:

How do I know if a GPU deal is real?

  1. Confirm the VRAM in the exact listing title. "RTX 3060" and "RTX 5060 Ti" both come in 8GB versions.
  2. Look up that exact listing on a price tracker like Keepa.
  3. Compare the sale price with the summer low.

At or near the summer low: a real deal. Higher than that: check open-box, or wait.

  4. For open-box, pick Like New or Very Good and read the note on what's missing.
  5. Check that your power supply has the wattage and connectors the card needs.

Quick answers

What is the best Black Friday GPU for local AI in 2026?

The RTX 3060 12GB for budgets, and the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB if it drops back to its summer price. Pick the most VRAM you can afford, and at least 12GB.

Is an 8GB GPU enough for local AI?

Not really. 8GB fits only small 7B to 8B models with little room to spare. Skip 8GB cards for AI, even on sale.

Should I buy an open-box GPU?

Yes, if it's graded Like New or Very Good. Amazon Resale items come with the same return rights as other Amazon orders, so run an AI model on it in the first week to make sure it's stable.

Will GPU prices drop on Black Friday 2026?

Some cards will be discounted, but prices rose in September 2026. Treat a card as a deal only if it falls back to roughly its summer price, and check open-box first.

Is a used RTX 3090 worth it on Black Friday?

Only if you need 24GB of VRAM for 32B-size models. Used RTX 3090 prices were around $1,200 in October 2026, roughly double last winter.

Your next step: pick your VRAM target from the table above, then check open-box graphics cards before you pay full price.
