Guide · Buying timing
Should you wait for Black Friday to buy a mini PC or NAS?
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Buying through these links supports the site at no extra cost to you. Full disclosure
If you need the box now, buy it now. Nobody knows today exactly what will be discounted in late November, and a server that's been running for a month is worth more than a discount you might not get.
If you're in no hurry, waiting is a reasonable bet for drives, NAS units, and budget mini PCs, because those usually show up in the big fall sales. Track prices first so you can tell a real discount from a fake one.
Words you'll see in this guide
- NAS: network-attached storage. A box of drives on your home network that every device can save to.
- CMR / SMR: two ways hard drives store data. CMR is the one you want in a NAS. SMR is cheaper and can be very slow when rebuilding.
- Off-lease: business computers returned after a few years and resold used, usually cheaply.
- Refurbished: used gear that a seller has checked, cleaned, and resold, often with a short warranty.
The fall sale calendar
| Event | 2026 dates |
|---|---|
| Amazon Prime Big Deal Days | October 6 and 7 (already over) |
| Black Friday | Friday, November 27 |
| Cyber Monday | Monday, November 30 |
Retailers usually start "early Black Friday" pricing weeks ahead, so the real window is most of November.
Usually worth waiting for
- Budget mini PCs (N100, N150, N305). Brands like Beelink and GMKtec run coupons all year and tend to push harder during big sales. Waiting often pays off, though a good everyday coupon can beat a so-so Black Friday price. Read the chip comparison first so you know which one you're shopping for.
- SSDs and hard drives. Storage is one of the most dependable sale categories. If you're filling a NAS, it's a sensible time to buy drives, as long as they're CMR. The Black Friday checklist explains why.
- Beginner NAS units. Synology and UGREEN boxes do show up in fall sales, so wait if you're patient. The beginner NAS guide covers which models to shortlist.
Usually not worth waiting for
- Used business tiny PCs. Off-lease ThinkCentre, OptiPlex, and EliteDesk machines are already cheap, and refurb sellers price them on supply, not the calendar. A good one today is as good as a good one on Black Friday. See the used tiny PC guide.
- Raspberry Pi boards. They sell close to a fixed list price and rarely get real discounts. Buy one when you need one.
- Used GPUs for local AI. Used prices follow new GPU launches and demand, not Black Friday. If a fair listing shows up with a return window, take it.
- Near its lowest price in recent months? Buy it.
- Near its highest? Add it to a watch list and wait for the sales.

Quick answers
Is Black Friday a good time to buy a mini PC?
Often, yes. Budget mini PC brands tend to discount during big sale events, but they also run coupons all year. Check the price history of the exact model before assuming the Black Friday price is the best one.
When is Black Friday 2026?
Black Friday 2026 is Friday, November 27, and Cyber Monday is November 30. Amazon's fall Prime Big Deal Days sale ran October 6 and 7, 2026.
Should I wait for Black Friday to buy a NAS?
If you can wait and your data is already backed up somewhere, waiting is reasonable, since NAS units and hard drives are common sale items. If your only copy of important files is on one old drive, set up a backup now instead of waiting.
